The Heroic Love Stories Of Marriage Equality
Watch the promo reel for the series.
Marriage Equality is one of the greatest civil rights achievements of this century.
With recent remarks by Justice Clarence Thomas asking AGs across the country to bring him cases to help overturn Obergefell and send marriage rights back to the states, we see all too clearly the threat– even with the passage of the Respect For Marriage Act.
These new rights only fully protect in 20 states and will not stop
the aversion to and attacks on our community.
Only true stories, like those in this project, have that kind of power.
.
We believe JustMarried will form a critical element in the fight to ensure–
that our right to love is recognized by voters–
and will enshrine this right in the hearts and minds of all Americans.
the beauty of this series: the love stories
the magic: witnessing individuals who - taught since childhood to keep quiet –
come out and speak their truth to realize dignity in their own lives
and find acceptance from fellow Americans
the urgency: Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, who beat California’s Prop 8 said it best:
“We never expected, once we’d won, we might have to fight all over again.
But that seems to be the way when it comes to human rights.
When you think the war is won–think again.”
We didn't go into it to be activists–
We went into it, to be together.
Each narrative embodies the long fight for societal inclusion and its companion: dignity.
These stories are about love and courage– at a time when we may need them most.
It is a historical collection that educates and inspires future generations to understand why people,
from a wide a variety of age, race, religion, gender identity, political and social economic backgrounds
fought for our rights— and how easily those rights can be lost.
We believe the best way to fight is to remain defiantly visible and with our stories,
and stay in the hearts of everyday Americans.
With JustMarried – We intend to do just that.
The JustMarried Project has been researching and documenting for over 15 years–
weaving together the voices that lead to the right for all people to marry the person they love.
Here is a bit about why we think it matters–maybe more now than ever.
